"IN BETWEEN"

Having immigrated from the Soviet Union with my family as a Jewish refugees in 1994, I never stopped reflecting on the emotions and mental state of being in between the realities. The paradox of negotiation the abandoned reality and the newly found one. Which one and at which point is more real, tangible, comprehensible? Through the use of expressive color palette and sculptural textured layering on the painting surface I depict emotional turmoil of experiencing loss, leaving home, the feeling of non-belonging and disorientation, and the tangible feeling of time. The atmospheric feeling of hazy, blurry cityscapes with undefined sense of time and place, unnatural acidic yellow alluding to the manipulated air, all try to capture a place existing somewhere inbetween of multiverse of realities, outside of familiar time continuum.
