Since the late 90’s voyeurism is taking place indirectly, through internet’s browser “windows”. I am fascinated by this increasingly indirect participation in life as humanity at large is being sucked into the digital world. On the one hand humanity is trying to pull itself out of fast, mostly urban, capitalistic rat-race by means of computer escapism, but at the same time is being trapped in the new virtual reality. The multiple pane antique windows provide a number of cultural references, one of which is the barred window of the prison. Our inability to analyze and escape the high volume of visual, digital information is frightening and paralyzing.
I employ the use of repetition by layering transparencies, clear plexi elements and rhythmic lines to create a sense of dizzying movement, speed and multi-dimensionality. Through the use of contrasting materials (antique pre-war windows and digital illustrations) I am emphasizing the ever-present duality in our life.
